Despite the plethora of information available to the public via the web and numerous professional development opportunities, many teachers are using outdated practices to attempt to “manage” their classrooms.

From sticker charts and behavioral systems, to time-out or pointing out a child’s faults repeatedly, teachers are relying on strategies that have been shown to be ineffective or even deleterious to children’s health and well-being. Teachers are working harder, not smarter. And they are burned out and stressed!

In this training, I teach participants how to develop the child instead of managing the classroom. Don’t worry: if you develop the child, the classroom will be managed. If adults are open to “updating their software” (beliefs) about how to promote healthy development in children, this training will transform their classrooms and/or homes. They learn to teach based on science, not habit.

I tailor the content to the particular age group of the children taught to help adults consider their mindset about children’s behavior, including examining some of their values, perceptions, and beliefs that may be impeding their ability to adopt and implement with fidelity some of the newer strategies included in 21st Century teaching. Ultimately, the goal of this training is to maximize children’s health and learning outcomes while minimizing teacher stress and burnout.

A clip highlighting two of the 21st Century teaching strategies included in the training: attunement and self-reflection
