This training series has three parts:
1) Setting the foundation for reflective practice
2) Strengthening coaching competencies, and
3) Integrating theory, skill and strategy
This series is iterative, designed to create a strong foundation for reflective practice by offering coaches an opportunity to explore, develop, build upon and integrate their purpose, presence and praxis as a coach including how to implement video into their coaching practice.
- In training one, setting the foundation for reflective practice, coaches will:
- Explore “mindset before method,” by reflecting upon their coaching stance: purpose, presence, and praxis.
- Learn a framework for using video in coaching that includes guided observation, shared reflection and planning that strengthens relationships, collaboration, and the potential for lasting change.
- Particular focus will be on how video can be used as the foundation for strength-based conversations designed to optimize teacher reflection as a means of strengthening implementation of chosen practices with fidelity in the classroom.
- In training two, strengthening coaching competencies, coaches will:
- Develop and Build upon their praxis with three key coaching competencies: active listening, powerful questioning, and scaffolding learning.
- Coaches will identify how each of the three competencies is connected to their coaching stance, strengthen their understanding of how each competency supports reflective coaching, and spend time practicing coaching with each competency within the framework for using video in coaching conversations.
- This training helps coaches develop and build upon what they explored in training one by strengthening their capacity to weave video into the coaching conversation using the key competencies for coaching in alignment with their coaching stance.
- In training three, integrating theory, skill and strategy, coaches will:
- Integrate the elements of reflective practice by strengthening their understanding of, and ability to perform, “coaching from the inside out.”
- In this training, coaches will also share observations, reflections and coaching “dilemmas” connected to their coaching stance, competencies and the video framework.
- Training three will be unique to the training group, modified by the consultant based upon the reflections from the previous two trainings and other feedback gathered to support the groups’ needs.
